Apple Cider Aperol Spritz

I love going to the farmers’ market in the fall and seeing all the gorgeous apples. Making homemade apple cider is so worth it, and you can use it for many different cocktails.

Ingredients

Evie’s Homemade Apple Cider

  • 8-10 apples of your choice
  • 1/2 orange
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • Six allspice berries
  • Eight cloves
  • One pod star anise
  • One cinnamon stick
  • One pod nutmeg
  • Six cardamom pods
  • 8-10 cups water (1 cup for every apple used)

Apple Cider Spritz

  • 1 1/2 ounces apple cider (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 ounce Aperol
  • 3 ounces Prosecco
  • 1 1/2 ounces of soda water
  • One apple slice (for garnish)
  • One pod star anise (for garnish)

Directions

If using homemade apple cider, make apple juice.

  1. Add the quartered apple and the washed, cored, and quartered apples to a large pot or Dutch oven. Add the brown sugar, allspice, cloves, and star anise. Also, add cinnamon sticks, nutmeg pods, water, and nutmeg. Stir for about 30 seconds until well combined.
  2. Dutch oven simmer on low heat for 4 hours. Crush apples with a wooden teaspoon until the texture is similar to applesauce.
  3. Mixture through fine mesh sieve. Again, strain through cheesecloth on top of the fine mesh sieve.

Make Apple Cider Aperol Spritz

  1. Add Aperol and apple cider into a wineglass. Add 3-4 ounces of Prosecco to a wine glass with ice.
  2. Add about one ounce of sparkling water. Garnish the drink with apple slices and star anise.
