Origin of the word Pizza
In his 1598 Italian-English Dictionary, John Florio entered Pizza to mean “a small wafer or cake.” The word Pizza is borrowed from Italian. However, the deeper meaning of the term, if you like, remains unclear. Others believe the Greek pitta is the origin. Some look at the bizzo (a language that originated in northern Italy, an ancient Germanic language) Langobardic.
No matter the origin, we call it “delicious.”
Who invented Pizza?
Italians are often credited as the inventors of modern Pizza. However, a baked loaf with toppings is a common food in many other cultures.
Pizza is most commonly associated with Italy, particularly Naples. However, other versions of Pizza, such as lahmacun from the Middle East, coca in Catalonia, and pissaladiere, are also very similar.
According to legend, the modern Pizza, an open-faced pie covered in tomato sauce, mozzarella, and basil, was invented by Raffaele Esposito, a baker in Naples, Italy, in the 18th Century. In 1889, he created a patriotic pizza topped with tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella in colors that matched the Italian flag in honor of King Umberto’s and Queen Margherita’s visit. The Queen is said to have enjoyed the pie, and it was named Margherita.
Pizza was not popularized in the US until World War II. Many American and European soldiers who were stationed in Italy tasted the Pizza and took a craving for it home. Pizza is sold by Italian restaurants and street vendors all over the world. You won’t have to search far for a crunchy flatbread pizza baked with olive oil. Tasty!
Is it a pie, a pizza, or a pizza?
What is the name of your Pizza? On the East Coast of the US, Pizza and Pizza are common terms for an entire pie. These terms are not used in other parts of the world (or even within the US). Pie was used for Pizza in the 1800s. New-York Tribune article from 1903 noted that “Pie is a Yankee dish only” and went on to describe “pomidore Pizza,” a dish consisting of tomato sauce and dough. Za refers to. A clipping is a word that is shortened but retains its meaning.

You can sound like a pizzaiolo by calling your crust bones and judging a pizza based on its leopard spot (the black spots in the crust) or hole structure (the holes inside the bread).
