Mudgee’s oldest winery and vineyard was established in 1858, with the birth of the region. The cellar door, surrounded by gums on the banks of Pipeclay Creek, is just five minutes away from the center of Mudgee. Visit the art gallery and wine museum while you’re here. Logan Wines

The Logan Wines taste room’s architecturally stunning design is one of many reasons why you should visit this cellar. You can enjoy the view from the hilltop while sampling the wines. Try a cheese platter made from local ingredients or Mudgee Catering Co.’s tasty pumpkin and High Valley Feta tart, or their homemade pork and Fennel sausage rolls on the weekends.

First Ridge

What you need to know: It is open from Thursday to Monday, 10 am to 4 pm (except Saturdays). Bookings and walk-ins are both accepted.

First Ridge has won the title of “Best Small Cellar Door” in Mudgee not once but twice by Gourmet Traveller. Stopping in is a must. The two adjacent shipping containers are housed with stunning views of the surrounding countryside and spectacular sunsets. Be sure to stay longer to take in the pictures and enjoy the Italian varietals that the vineyard is famous for. These include barbera, sangiovese and montelpuciano.

Robert Stein

What you need to know: The Motorcycle Museum and the cellar door are open seven days a week from 10 am to 4:30 pm. Reservations are required. The cost of a six-course wine tasting is $10 per person.

Robert Stein Winery & Cellar Door has been rated a Red Five Star Winery in the James Halliday Wine Companion. It produces award-winning whites, reds, and fortified wine. The cellar door is located in a charming cottage next to the Motorcycle Museum, as founder Robert Stein was a motorcyclist.

Lowe Wines

What you need to know is that it is open seven days a week from 10 am-5 pm. Reservations are required. The cost of a wine tasting is $20 per person, which includes nine different wines as well as housemade snacks.

Lowe’s cellar door and Farm is where you can find organic and biodynamic wine. David Lowe and Kim Currie, a husband and wife team, ran it. The first produces small-batch wines, and the second runs the Zin House restaurant. Ingredients are grown on the property in the kitchen gardens, orchards, and farmland. The boutique Shed by Zin Studio is also available for overnight stays.

Moothi Estate

Pieter van Gent Winery

Pieter van Gent, originally from Holland, arrived in Australia in 1959. He worked at Craigmoor Wines as a winemaker from 1970 until 1979, when he opened his winery. His son Philip now runs the family business and continues to produce excellent chardonnay as well as white ports and other wines. Onsite, you can also rent bicycles and stay in boutique accommodation.

Burnbrae Wines

Burnbrae offers friendly service and is well-known for its Lazy Pizza Sundays. They serve pizza, beer, and wine with live music. You can order an antipasto plate to go with the wine on any other day. Stay at the Winemakers Cottage, a two-bedroom cottage, or the Braeside house if you’d like to give the designated driver some time off.

De Beaurepaire Wines

What you need to know is that the store is open from Thursday to Monday, 11 am to 5 pm. Reservations are required. Three private guided experiences are available starting at $20 per individual. A self-guided four-wine flight is also offered for $12 per adult.

De Beaurepaire is located in Rylstone, about 40 minutes south of Mudgee. They produce single-estate French-style wine. The family-owned winery is now situated on 53 hectares in a beautiful rolling landscape. Vineyard sites were selected based on ‘terroir,’ which is similar to De Beaurepaire’s homeland of Burgundy. You can choose from 17 different wines made with a mix of old-world and new techniques. These include sparkling whites and roses, as well as reds and dessert wines. Scotch, Sascha, and other wine dogs will greet you upon arrival.

Vinifera Wines

The organic and sustainable Vinifera produces Spanish varieties, including tempranillo and garnacha. The family-run winery was among the first to plant tempranillo in Australia. Visit on Sundays for a High Cheese, which includes a selection of local cheeses, charcuterie, and crackers, along with chutneys, fruits, nuts, and a glass of wine.
